Ananthagiri hills near vikarabad is situated at a distance of 90km from Hyderabad. It is one of the favorite trekking destinations for the adventure seekers in Hyderabad. Perfect place to spend whole day in the lap of nature.

If you don't have much time to read the entire post, please visit the beautiful images of Ananthagiri hills @ http://photos.mytraveltales.in/2012/09/ananthagiri-hills.html

How to Reach:
Vikarabad, at a distance of 10km is the nearest town from ananthagiri hills. We have to cross vikarabad in-order to reach ananthagiri hills.

By Road:  From Hyderabad, there are two ways for reaching ananthagiri hills through vikarabad. One route is Hyderabad - APPA Junction (outer ring road) - Chilkur - Moinabad -Chevella - Manneguda - Vikarabad (approx 60km from APPA junction). And the other route is JNTU(KPHB) - BHEL - Patancheru - Rudraram - Sadasivpet(turn left) - Mominpet - Kothagadi - Vikarabad (approx 90km). After reaching vikarabad, proceed towards Ananthagiri road.

By Train: Vikarabad is situated on the Hyderabad - Mumbai railway line, so all the trains from Hyderabad to Mumbai will have a stop at vikarabad.

Reaching ananthagiri by road will be best option rather than opting for train. And it is better to travel in your own vehicle from Hyderabad, instead of using public transport for reaching ananthagiri from vikarabad, as there are limited options available in vikarabad.

Trekking:

Ananthagiri hills is the best place for first time trekkers. Even the ananthagiri forest is not so deep. There are less chances of getting lost in the ananthagiri forest. Most of the people come here for trekking will follow any of the two trails. First trail starts from the anantha padmanabha swamy temple and the other starts from the area which is at-least 0.5 km from the temple towards kerelli.

If you want to go deep into the forest then park your vehicle at the temple and then follow the steps that leads to the tank. That path will directly goes inside the forest and you have do some trek in order to get the top view of the forest. If you are interested in trekking, then you have to drive at-least 0.5 km from the temple, which is steep. Then you have to park your vehicle on the road side and can proceed for the trek. The second trail offers picturesque views of the forest and the valleys. There are many small hills in the ananthagiri region and if you are really interested then cover as many as you can. Instead of just trekking on the border of the hills, you can go inside the forest and can enjoy exploring the forest.

Accomodation in Ananthagiri hills:

APTDC:

Andhra Pradesh tourism is organizing one resort in Ananthagiri hills. There are 36 AC rooms available in the resort, and tariff is 1500 per day. We can book the rooms through online by clicking the link: APTDC (APTDC website) or by visiting the nearest AP tourism booking office. During weekends, the resort will be completely filled, so better book the rooms at-least one month in advance. We should appreciate APTDC for maintaining the resort in the best possible way. Location, restaurant and cleanliness are the positive points for APTDC resort. When I visited this resort in 2012, it was well maintained, but these days I'm hearing very bad reviews. So read reviews before booking this resort - TripAdvisor

Where to eat?

APTDC Haritha valley resort has a restaurant which server both veg and non-veg dishes. It is the only place where we get quality food near ananthagiri hills. Vikarabad do not have any good restaurants, not even good bakeries. So it's better to have the food at Haritha resort or carry some food with you so that you can eat while trekking.

Safety??
Very long back, ananthagiri hills is well known for black magic and for some illegal activities. But now the entire stretch is closely monitored by the police and forest department and there are no such incidents happening these days. Always prefer going in groups.

Is there any waterfall near ananthagiri?
There is no waterfall near anathagiri hills. But during monsoon, there are chances of small waterfalls formations inside the forest.

  10. Hey all,
thanks for this detailed description of the place, it realy helped.. overall place is good for a one day visit. start early from hyderabad..

we missed the small waterfall which is seen in 'Anatha... in monsoon' post.. rest all places, we covered.

Regarding Nagasamudram lake or kotipally reservoir
    - some distance we have to travel in kucha road
    - the sign board which shows there is hardly visible. so it is easy to miss this road.
    - police is also there, they wont stop or will be present there once you reach that place. once you enter water, they appear from no where and threaten that this place is restricted etc( the notice board is in telugu, not much readable and it just mentions a warning) and tell us that we need to go to police station... their only aim is some money.. dont fall into that trap.. better dont enter water or swim there so that they dont have a point.. better to have a telugu speaking person with you, who can talk with them..

  17. Nice information. We have visited Ananthagiri hills on last Sunday. It had a good experience for trekking and long drive from Hyderabad. But we read in the Eenadu paper (Hyderabad edition-10-Dec-12, 2nd page) that some unidentified people attacked the visitors and looted the jewellery and other valuables from them on the same day we have visited. Please go with the groups, so that you can avoid this type of incidents.
